Estepona kicked off its Fiesta Season 2019 on a beautiful warm afternoon, with the traditional “Burning of the Sardine” Carnival. The sardine left the Parque del Calvario and moved along Calle Terazza accompanied through the streets by an eclectic mix of characters and musicians, to its final resting place on La Rada beach.
All of the locals who dressed up for the costume competitions made a super effort and made it very difficult for the judges. With so many different costumes ranging from Spidermen, Clowns, Fairy’s, and Vikings not to mention Pirates and Hulks, the local people especially the Mums & Dads who had their orders on what costumes their kiddies wanted to wear.
As the procession moved along Calle Terazza the crowd grew as it neared the beach and was greeted by locals and visitors for the burning of the sardine, this went off with a boom and some singed eyebrows amidst oohs and arhs from the on looking crowd, in this case marking the start of the fiesta season of 2019.
