The Magnum Mysterium Choir has been developing its musical activity in Estepona for more than 30 years. Initially called ‘Villa de Estepona’, it was founded in 1987. In the beginning it was configured as a Chamber Choir focused on the study and interpretation of classical polyphony and, throughout its career, it has been incorporating into its repertoire works of all styles and of all times, from music from Eastern countries, Sephardic songs and popular titles to music from films, musicals and polyphonic scores by contemporary composers.

In 1992, the Choir was established as a non-profit Cultural Association, with the aim of promoting the study and practice of quality polyphonic choral music. He has offered concerts in various cities throughout Spain and has participated in competitions, exchanges and international meetings, carrying the name of our city beyond our borders, leaving evidence of his good musical level. It has to its credit the Torre Almenara 2011 award and was awarded the Esteponero of the Year 2012 award given by the Rotary International Club.

Its principal director, Miguel Ángel Garrido Sánchez, emeritus professor at the Manuel Carra Professional Conservatory in Malaga, currently dedicates his activity to directing choirs, thus continuing a long career in teaching polyphonic choral music, which he combines with his activity as organist.

The Orfeón ‘Virgen de la Escalera’ was founded in Rota in March 1982 under the sponsorship of the Mayor Zoilo Ruiz Mateos Foundation. He has toured all the autonomous communities of the country, participating in important competitions and meetings, such as the XVII Cycle of World Choirs organized by the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial; II International Sacred Music and Polyphony Week, Segovia (April 1995); Holy Week Concert Proclamation. He has toured Italy, performing at a Eucharist in the Vatican and at the General Audience of John Paul II, France, Portugal, Poland, Germany. Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic singing in the Church of the Infant Jesus in Prague…

In the summer of 2005 he toured Poland giving concerts in Krakow and Warsaw. All these concerts were organized by the Cervantes Institute of said country for the dissemination of Spanish poetry and music. In the summer of 2007 she made a trip to Hungary, with a concert of Spanish music in the Church of Saint Nicholas in Budapest.

He participated in the XXVII International Festival of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja (Alicante), obtaining the ‘Francisco Vallejos’ Award for the best interpretation of Habaneras, and in the XXV Certamen de la Canción Marinera de San Vicente de la Barquera (Santander), where he obtained the third Prize and the Bronze Lira.
